Nepal, located in Southern Asia, is a landlocked nation and was declared as a Federal Democratic Republic in 2007. Nepal is a member of the World Trade Organization. The economy of Nepal is mainly agriculture based. Around seventy five percent of the population is involved in agriculture. Rice is the main crop. Other crops are pulses, wheat, barley, sugarcane, oilseeds, jute, tobacco, cotton, indigo and opium. Medical herbs are cultivated and exported globally. The country also has small deposits of mineral resources including ochre, copper, iron, lignite and cobalt. However, large quantities of mica can also be found in the country. |
